I’m finding this Golden Turmeric Milk Recipe to be a rather perfect afternoon tea, a great little pick-me-up, particularly as the weather cools down. It’s also rather lovely on the couch post dinner, if you’ve space for it of course.

I’ve chosen to make my turmeric milk recipe with coconut milk. I rather love the natural sweetness it provides and it has a beautiful creamy texture. Feel free to replace it with your preferred milk, dairy or otherwise.

I’ve provided you with two versions below, one a little simpler than the other. I’ll admit to falling in the first (quicker) camp more often than not for my afternoon fix.

Of the two cups below, the one on the right is made with turmeric powder which seems to give it more of its beautiful orange hue.

Serves 2:

1. Easiest/quickest version (saves about 5 minutes)

2 cups coconut milk
1.5 teaspoons ground turmeric
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
A good pinch of cracked or ground pepper
Honey to taste (optional ))

Combine all of the above ingredients (except the honey) in a small saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer for 30 seconds or so. Taste and add honey if required.

You will find the cinnamon may float to the top a little so if aesthetics are vital for serving feel free to strain it first (as I did for these shots!).

2.  Longer/more nutrient dense version (better flavour in my book)

2 cups coconut milk
1 teaspoon finely grated turmeric
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
A small slice of freshly peeled ginger
A good pinch of cracked or ground pepper
Honey to taste

Combine all of the ingredients (except the honey) in a small saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer for 3 minutes. Taste and add honey if required.

You may not want to chew on the ginger but you will ideally drink the turmeric. If that’s not appealing to you, feel free to strain the milk.
